Kentucky NASP Foundation

Kentucky's NASP has taken "leaps and bounds" to new levels during the 2007 season. The successful tournament year - with regional qualifiers being held throughout the state led to over 3,000 students being able to participate in a tournament setting and 1,600 of these advanced to state - then 800 on to National competition through the NASP tournaments held this spring.

Throughout Kentucky, growth continues as educators, volunteers, parents and community members are coming together to assist students in their areas grow
in archery. Local trainings and new schools joining occur each few weeks -with the number one objective of student impact being achieved. We are already seeing local clubs being formed by parents and community leaders to offer more archery.

We only have to look around us to find success stories each and every day. Coaches across the Commonwealth continue to relate daily triumphs and achievements by their students through their work in the sport of Archery.

Students, such as this year's National Champion Greg Geary of Meade County - will begin college this fall, with partial funding through scholarships he won during state and national NASP tournaments. Pulaski County archers Chad Leigh and Ashley Rose are, as we speak, at the Olympic Training Center, as part of the Jr. Olympic Dream Team.

On a national level, we are beginning to see students competing in various archery venues - NFAA, ASA, IBO - all after beginning their careers in a NASP school and gymnasium archery program. Just this past month, 87 students competed during the ASA NASP round in London, Kentucky! Several of these students have become interested in taking archery a step further and are now competing in the Youth classes of 3-D shoots in addition to their NASP competition. Many of these students are also bring their siblings, parents and even grandparents along to these National events – and many of those have begun to compete, as well.

Next year, colleges in Kentucky will be offering archery as an intramural activity with the teams expected to begin competing in the Spring of 2008 as part of an X-Mural Collegiate Program with the stories could continue on and on.

Needless to say, Kentucky NASP would not be as strong without the dedicated leadership by KDFWR, support staff and members it encompasses. From every single volunteer to every parent and every coach - Kentucky NASP continues to strive for the ultimate goal of putting children first and enabling our students to have every opportunity available for success and growth. We are a passionate group - but our eyes remain on the prize of our children.

In each of Kentucky's 120 counties, NASP schools are growing in number and size! To assist with local trainings, information, and regional tournament - Regional Coordinators have been named in each region. For more information about NASP in your county - or to receive information about trainings in your area - contact your Regional Coordinator.
